The NBA has a combination of an ever growing salary cap and reliance on statistics to inform player personnel decision making. There are dozens of statistical features available to the public ranging from basic Points Per Game to the advanced statistics including Win Shares and PER. The behind-the-scenes of contract negotiation is something that is a secret from fans, but using a combination of modeling on player statistics and previous information on salaries, we will be able to make estimations for a player’s estimated true value within the salary cap constraints. Do players tend to get paid more when the team they are on is good or does individual performance outweigh being stuck on a bad team? The goal of this research is to find the relationship between performance in previous seasons and future salary outlook.
